Podjavorinské Museum

The Podjavorinské Museum, housed in the historic Baroque Gilániho dom building in the city called Nové Mesto nad Váhom, dates back to the second half of the 18th century. Founded in 1950, the museum now operates as a specialised branch of the Trenčín Museum. It primarily focuses on the region’s history and literary heritage.

The exhibition offers visitors a glimpse into the history of Nové Mesto nad Váhom and the surrounding area, showcasing everything from the oldest archaeological finds to cultural and social traditions. Visitors will find thematic sections dedicated to archaeology, history, ethnography and the craft guilds that shaped the town in the past. A separate section highlights the region’s rich ecclesiastical history.

One of the most interesting exhibits is a replica of the Beckov Madonna, a notable piece of Gothic art. While the original of this rare statue is now located in Koryčany in the Czech Republic, its history is closely linked to Beckov and Nové Mesto nad Váhom.

The Lives of Our Ancestors

Folk culture is presented through clothing, crafts and everyday objects. Notable items include Haban faience and traditional Trenčín ceramics. Meanwhile, various types of folk costume showcase the region’s diversity, ranging from richly decorated lowland garments to simpler mountain variants.

Viticulture has also always been an important part of life in the region. Local wines were once served at the imperial court in Vienna, and this tradition is gradually being revived today. The Podjavorinské Museum provides visitors with expert knowledge and authentic experiences, helping them to better imagine life in the past.
