The Historical Hotel Elizabeth opened its doors on 1 January 1902 under the name Erszebet Szálló. Built by Baron Armin Popper, it quickly became the centre of social and cultural life in Trenčín. Here, the elegance of the monarchy met first-class service and comfort to rival that of Viennese establishments.

In 1921, it became known as the Hotel Tatra, a name it retained for the following decades. In 2006, a new chapter began when the hotel was acquired by the Slovak company SYNOT GASTRO SLOVAKIA.

The Hotel Elizabeth has 78 elegant rooms and a total of 144 beds. These are divided into four categories: Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite and Suite Exclusive.

The hotel’s renowned restaurant offers a unique view of a Roman inscription dating back to 179 AD, and combines high-quality service with modern gastronomy. The menu features traditional Slovak recipes enhanced by contemporary culinary techniques, seasonal ingredients and the chef’s creativity.

A key part of the culinary experience is the tasting menu, which transforms dinner into a true flavour ritual. The four- or six-course tasting menu, prepared by the award-winning team of chefs, features surprising flavour combinations and subtle contrasts, presented in an elegant setting beneath Trenčín Castle. Each course tells its own story, and together they create a harmonious whole that guests remember long after they leave.

A wide selection of quality wines, a business menu and special menus for groups make the restaurant popular not only with hotel guests, but also with visitors to the city.

The gastronomy at Hotel Elizabeth has long been among the best in Slovakia, as confirmed by prestigious professional awards. Café Sissi Restaurant received two hats in the 2025 and 2026 Gault & Millau Gastronomic Guides, which recognises top-class cuisine, precise craftsmanship and professional service. In the 2026 Falstaff Gurmán Award, one of Europe’s largest gourmet communities, Hotel Elizabeth received three forks and a total of 90 points. This success was also confirmed by its inclusion in the top three most popular restaurants at the Winter Food Festival 2025, where the finest Slovak establishments are showcased.

These awards are the result of the hard work of a team of experienced chefs led by Executive Chef Daniel Marek. They combine traditional Slovak recipes with seasonal ingredients and modern culinary techniques, paying close attention to detail and precise processing to create beautiful dishes. The result is an authentic gastronomic experience. The Caracalla Spa wellness centre is a true oasis of peace. Designed in the style of ancient Roman baths, it offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily city life.
