Brezina Forest Park
Just a few steps from the center of Trenčín, you’ll find yourself in the woods. Brezina Forest Park is a unique place where nature meets the city; spanning 200 hectares, it offers the perfect setting for relaxation, sports, and peaceful walks.
The historical development of this site is linked to the development of Trenčín Castle from the earliest period of the Trenčín estate. Part of today’s Brezina Forest Park was still a barren hill in the 19th century. Goats grazed there, which is why the highest point of the massif is still called Kozí vrch (Goat Hill) today. At the end of the 19th century, Trenčín archivist, discoverer of the Roman inscription on the castle rock, and Catholic priest Ľudovít Bonaventúra Stárek began systematically reforesting the area. The first trees to finally take root here were birches, from which the name Brezina was derived. Subsequently, in 1907, pine trees began to be planted, and they are currently the dominant tree species.
A Forest with a Story
The forest complex in close proximity to the city center is a rarity, particularly because it provides city residents with ideal conditions for mental and physical relaxation. There are walking trails, nature trails, bike paths, playgrounds, and public fire pits. Other points of interest include a cherry orchard, the Memorial to the Martyrs, and the Štefánik Lookout.
