Contemporary Art in the City’s Flow

This location is no accident: the gallery is situated in a place where hundreds of people pass by every day. The gallery was created in response to events in the city, with the aim of establishing a platform for art that engages with society, public space and the modern world.

When an End Creates Space for a New Beginning

The FOR MAAT Gallery was created by a group of artists who were connected to the demolition of the architecturally significant Merina textile factory in Trenčín. They had their studios there, and the demolition of the building served as the impetus for the exhibition ‘Transformations of Merina’ (BOD NULA Trenčín, 2021).

This exhibition was an artistic response to the loss of a space of fundamental significance to both the city and the community. From this experience naturally arose the need to create a new, stable platform for collective and individual artistic activities: FOR MAAT.

Engaged Art Here and Now

FOR MAAT has long been dedicated to socially engaged themes that touch on everyday life. Here, art responds to our relationship with public space, nature and the environment, as well as the impact of new technologies on contemporary society.

A key aspect of the programme is supporting marginalised communities, creating an inclusive space and connecting visual art with wider social issues. The gallery is therefore not only an exhibition space, but also a venue for dialogue.

Contemporary Trends Without Barriers

The FOR MAAT Gallery’s programme primarily focuses on presenting contemporary artists from the younger and middle generations. It emphasises new media, intermedial crossovers, and current forms of artistic expression.

The gallery aims to attract a local audience to new media and introduce the general public to contemporary art trends in an accessible and open manner without unnecessary barriers.
