Sofi Oksanen (FI): Purge

Out of fear of the violence she herself has experienced and does not want to endure again, a woman marries a communist official and allows her sister and young niece to be deported to Siberia. Besides fear, she is also driven by her feelings for her brother-in-law, an enemy of the state whom she is hiding and wants to keep for herself. Years later, after trying to suppress the memory of her actions, her sister’s granddaughter appears, pursued by Russian pimps who had forced her into prostitution.
