What connects Dubnica embroidery, textile manufacturing, posters, graphic design, and vinyl records? The needle. A tool capable of joining materials, piercing surfaces, creating images, and reading sound tracks. The needle serves as the motif linking stories of creativity in the Považie region across more than a century. The exhibition A Needle in a Haystack – Creative Industry in the Považie Region at the Dubnica Museum presents the region as a place where creativity never vanished—it merely transformed.

– through textile manufacturing in Trenčín and the Tiberghien and Merina enterprises
– to the posters, catalogs, and graphic culture of the Výtvarná Dubnica event
– all the way to contemporary design, vinyl production, music, and sound
Historical artifacts meet contemporary original works, forging new connections between the past and the present. The exhibition demonstrates that creativity does not emerge solely in major cultural centers. The Považie region possesses its own creative footprint—evident in materials, patterns, images, technologies, and sound. The exhibition includes a supplementary program for schools and the general public, featuring creative workshops, guided tours, discussions, and conversations with the creators and those who remember the era. The exhibition was organized by the Dubnica Museum in collaboration with the Slovak National Museum – Historical Museum in Bratislava, the Slovak Design Museum in Bratislava, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Néprajzi Múzeum (Ethnographic Museum) in Budapest, and various Slovak and Czech designers.
The exhibition received financial support from Trenčín 2026, European Capital of Culture.
